Good news for business owners: MDR is postponed.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has postponed the rollout of Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). The charges were originally set to begin on October 15, 2026, but will now be implemented immediately after Diwali; the exact date is not confirmed, but NPCI will notify soon.

What Is MDR? Full Form, Function, and Who Pays

MDR stands for Merchant Discount Rate, so what are these merchant discount rate charges?
MDR is a fee that shopkeepers (merchants) pay when processing digital payments.

Suppose you go to buy a phone, you buy your phone worth Rs. 20,000/- and then you do your payment using UPI. After receiving the payment, the merchant has to pay 0.40% of the total transaction to NPCI (Rs. 20,000/ – 0.40% = Rs. 80/-). Customers will NOT have to pay any fee.

Under the proposed rules:

 • Transactions above ₹2,000: Will have a 0.40% fee (capped at a maximum of ₹300).
 • Bills, Utilities, Fuel, and Education: Will have a flat fee of ₹5 for payments above ₹2,000.
 • Exemptions: Payments under ₹2,000 and personal transfers (P2P) will remain 100% free.

Now you understand the charges and all now Let’s see some numbers

UPI Transection Last Year

The Volume Numbers Explained (FY 2025–26)

If we calculate these percentages based on the total annual volume of 24,162 crore transactions reported by PIB(Press Information Bureau) & INDmoney:

 • Total Annual Transactions: 24,162 crore (100%)
 • Transactions that stay free (96%): 23,195.52 crore (These are transactions under ₹2,000 and P2P transfers)
 • Transactions affected by MDR (4%): 966.48 crore (Commercial merchant transactions above ₹2,000)

Why the 4% Matters ?

While the 4% sounds like a small volume of transactions, it represents a massive portion of the monetary value. According to Dataful and Factly.in, 4%% of high-value merchant payments account for roughly 67% (two-thirds) of the total transaction value, translating to approximately ₹61 lakh crore out of the year’s ₹314 lakh crore total pool

UPI Annual Transaction Volume vs Value, Onevisionmedia
UPI Annual Transaction Volume vs Value

Where Will the MDR Revenue Go?

According to government figures, about 96% of merchant UPI transactions will stay free, affecting only about 4% of total payments.

The money collected from those 4% of the fee will be shared among banks, payment apps, and service providers to help maintain and improve the UPI payment network.

Why Are Retailers and Trade Associations Protesting?

Following the MDR announcement On September 15, 2026, both business owners and regular users are dissatisfied, each with their own reasons

Retail trader groups are unhappy because many shops operate on very small profit margins.

 • The All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) wants a fixed, low fee instead of a percentage charge.
 • The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF) estimates this fee could cost the retail sector between ₹7,000 Crore and ₹9,000 Crore every year.

Both the AIMRA & AICPDF announced a protest called for a ‘No UPI Day’ on October 2, but after meeting with India’s Finance Minister, shop owners paused their planned protests while the government reviews the policy.

Big Relief Under Consideration for Small Businesses

According to some big news portals, to protect small shops, officials are considering exempting businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹40 Lakh. If this happens, then this will become a major upgrade, a big relief for business owners from the previous plan, which only exempted merchants receiving up to ₹1 Lakh per month.

In that case, this would be a significant enhancement, a substantial relief for business owners, following the previous plan which only covered merchants earning up to ₹1 lakh monthly.

My Personal Opinion

Rumor has it that NPCI can postpone this till the end of 2026, and they may announce it on January 1, 2027. I may be wrong but from what I am seeing since the first announcement of this MDR rule in September people and merchants were not happy with that even though NPCI clearly mentioned that for normal transactions means for P2P the charges remain 100% zero and only merchants have to pay the charges when a digital transaction happens above Rs. 2000/-

But people were not sure about this idea on social media and other platforms; people are criticizing this decision.

From people’s perspective, merchants will transfer those 0.40% charges to customers, and in the end, normal people have to pay the price. Why this? Because they have seen something similar before. Before UPI launch, people used to carry cards and do transactions, and this was common practice in merchants. They used to ask 1-2% extra, sometimes 3-4%, to cover the card and POS charges

I am sure NPCI will come up with a way to fix this and clear people doubts

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can merchants pass the 0.40% MDR fee directly onto consumers at checkout?

No. The regulatory framework explicitly prohibits merchants from passing MDR charges or adding checkout surcharges to buyers. Consumers will continue to pay only the standard listed price for all goods and services.

Does an exempt small vendor (P2PM) get charged MDR if a single payment exceeds ₹2,000?

No. MDR eligibility is determined by overall merchant classification rather than individual transaction size, keeping registered small vendors (P2PM) at zero MDR. A single customer payment exceeding ₹2,000 will not trigger fee deductions on an exempt merchant account.

How does the fee cap work for high-value transactions of ₹1 lakh or more?

For transactions of ₹75,000 and above, the 0.40% rate stops and is subject to a strict maximum cap of ₹300 per transaction. For example, a ₹1,00,000 purchase incurs only the flat ₹300 ceiling rather than an uncapped ₹400 fee.

Do fuel, utility, railway, and insurance payments also attract the 0.40% percentage fee?

No. Essential public categories—including petrol pumps, electricity, piped gas, telecom, railways, and insurance—are exempt from percentage-based rates. Eligible transactions above ₹2,000 in these designated sectors attract a flat, concessional MDR of just ₹5.

SuperMush, the mushroom wellness startup, just closed a $3 million Series A, and why internet is buzzing. If you want to know who is behind it, how it grew, and what founders can learn from it, this guide covers all of it.

SuperMush Raises $3 Million in Funding

SuperMush is a US-based startup founded in 2022 by Alli Schaper and Brian Friedman. It recently raised $3 million in a Series A round led by NDude Labs, an investment firm focused on healthcare and wellness.

The brand sells through direct-to-consumer (D2C) and retail channels. According to the company, its products are in more than 2,000 US stores, including about 1,000 Target locations and Sprouts.

How will SuperMush use the funding?

 • Expand its product portfolio
 • Invest more deeply in high-efficacy formulations
 • Strengthen its team and operational infrastructure so it can serve more customers
 • Grow across retail, D2C, and marketplace channels

Vikram Sehgal, COO at NDude Labs, explained the bet: “NDude Labs invests in differentiated, science-backed products and founders with the vision and grit to build enduring brands.”

What Is SuperMush? Brand, Mission, and Philosophy

SuperMush operates under the legal entity Into the Multiverse Inc. and is headquartered in Venice, Southern California. It positions itself as a “Modern Performance Wellness Brand.”

The look and feel are inspired by the colorful spirit and iconic music of the 1960s and 70s, paired with a modern demand for health and vitality.

The brand’s core idea is simple. SuperMush argues that mushrooms and fungi were part of the human diet for some 20,000 years, supporting our hormones, nervous system, and immune system. Modern life pushed them off our plates.

Busy people rarely have time for their health, so SuperMush brings mushrooms back as high-potency extracts you can take anywhere, anytime.

Learn About – SuperMush Story

Who Are Alli Schaper and Brian Friedman?

Before SuperMush, both founders were established entrepreneurs with backgrounds in corporate work, tech, and wellness branding.

They teamed up in 2020 to build The Multiverse, an e-commerce marketplace for functional mushroom brands. Running it gave them first-hand insight into what customers wanted, and that inspired SuperMush.

The company started in November 2021 with three mushroom-based mouth sprays, designed to make functional mushrooms easier to consume than capsules. It later shifted toward gummies and supplements.

What Products Does SuperMush Sell?

The range includes Shilajit, Creatine, and Lion’s Mane gummies, alongside earlier Energy, Sleep, and Passion gummies.

Product categoryExamples and stated purpose
Mouth spraysEnergy, relaxation, and immune-support sprays using cordyceps, reishi, lion’s mane, and turkey tail
SuperMush gummiesEnergy, Sleep, Passion, Shilajit, Creatine, and Lion’s Mane
Functional mintsEarlier products sold through online and retail channels
Lifestyle productsStreetwear and media offered by the parent brand alongside supplements

What Does SuperMush Claim About Its Ingredients?

 • All products have 0 grams of sugar, sweetened with a little sugar alcohol and monk fruit
 • Vegan and USDA organic
 • Third-party lab tested
 • Made with fruiting-body extracts rather than mycelium, which the brand says deliver higher levels of active compounds such as beta-glucans and polysaccharides

Its ingredient claims break down like this:

 • Cordyceps: energy and endurance
 • Reishi: relaxation and sleep
 • Lion’s mane: cognition
 • Chaga: endurance
 • Turkey tail: immunity

These are wellness-positioning claims, not proven medical treatments. Treat them as supplement marketing, not clinical advice.

How Does the SuperMush Business Model Work?

SuperMush uses an omnichannel model that combines direct-to-consumer sales, marketplace listings, and physical retail.

 • Direct-to-consumer: The best channel for early-stage startups. You can test products cheaply without much capital.
 • Marketplaces: A good fit for mid-sized brands. You list on platforms like Amazon, with Target and Sprouts as retail partners.
 • Retail distribution: The most powerful but most expensive channel. A new brand gets buried by established products unless it pays for placement and builds a proper retail network.

SuperMush uses all three. That means it doesn’t depend on any single acquisition channel, which lets it push growth without holding back.

Decoding SuperMush Growth and Marketing: How Did It Grow So Fast?

TikTok has been SuperMush’s biggest growth lever. The company says it generated over 22 million views and 2.3 million likes within 12 months of launch, making it one of the fastest-growing CPG brands on the platform.

Its content mixes product education, mental-health conversations, mushroom culture, and distinctive 1960s-70s-inspired branding. Instead of relying only on performance ads, it built a media and community layer called Into the Multiverse, which drives awareness and brand loyalty.

A note for marketers: SuperMush didn’t just sell “mushroom supplements.” It took an unfamiliar ingredient category and packaged it in familiar, shareable formats, gummies and sprays. Then it used short-form video, cultural positioning, and retail proof to make the category feel accessible to Gen Z and younger millennials.

If you’re building something similar, copy the playbook: make the unfamiliar feel familiar, and build a community before you buy reach.

SuperMush Funding History: Every Round So Far

 • Seed round (2021): About $1.5 million, raised before the public product launch. The money went into product development and building the team.
 • Second seed round (2022): Additional investment from Vibrant Ventures and Mystic Ventures. Public profile data lists the amount at roughly $998,900.
 • Series A (October 2026): On October 6, SuperMush raised $3 million, led by NDude Labs, an India- and US-based healthcare and wellness investment firm.

Revenue and Traction: What Do the Numbers Say?

These figures come from various sources, listed at the bottom of the article.

 • In 2023, the company reported $1.5 million in revenue during its first 14 months, with around 55,000 superfood supplements sold.
 • Recent third-party estimates suggest significantly higher traffic and revenue since then. One source puts it at about 31,300 monthly website visitors and roughly $91,900 to $166,900 in monthly revenue.

Treat third-party estimates as directional, not audited.

The post Apple Pay India Launch: Why Axis Bank Won the Deal Over HDFC and ICICI appeared first on Onevision Media.

]]>
After years of regulatory hurdles, card tokenization overhauls, and intense industry speculation, Apple Pay has officially launched in India today.

While domestic UPI giants like PhonePe, Paytm, and Google Pay heavily dominate high-volume, low-ticket transactions across india, Apple’s entry can change things. Apple Pay targets an entirely different segment: India’s high-spending, premium iOS demographic.

Below is the complete strategic breakdown of Apple Pay’s India launch, what it means for your payment infrastructure, and how you can implement it today.

My Personal POV on Apple Pay

Now, the above claim that Apple is targeting high-spending, premium iOS users is something an official spokesperson would say. However, in India, we all know that more than 70–80% of iPhone sales happen via EMIs.

So, claiming that Apple Pay will consist solely of high-spending users isn’t entirely accurate. Those who buy iPhones on EMI merely to show off to their peers are unlikely to use Apple Pay frequently, and even if they do, you can expect a very low transaction volume from them.

Now, I’m not saying that all of those 70–80% of users are doing it to show off, but a solid 50% of them certainly are.

Apple Pay India Launch: Overview, Tech Architecture, and Why It Took a Decade

Apple Pay first launched in US on October 20, 2014 and within 8 months they were in UK. Then after that by 2016 they were in all major countries like Australia, China, Singapore, Japan so why did it take 11-12 years (11 years, 11 months 10 days) to launch in India?

Why Apple Pay Took Over a Decade to Launch in India

 • Biometric 2FA Regulations: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) long required SMS OTPs or bank PINs for digital payments, conflicting with Apple’s one-touch Face ID experience. The rollout only became viable once updated RBI guidelines formally treated device possession plus biometrics as valid two-factor authentication.
 • Data Localization Directives: The RBI’s 2018 mandate required all payment logs and customer data to reside exclusively on domestic servers. Aligning Apple’s globally distributed tokenization systems with local data residency laws required years of complex re-engineering.
 • The Dominance of UPI: Shortly after Apple Pay debuted globally, UPI transformed India into a zero-cost, QR-code-driven digital economy. This instant bank-to-bank rail left little initial consumer demand for an NFC-dependent card wallet.
 • Contactless POS Infrastructure: Apple Pay requires NFC tap-and-pay merchant machines, which were virtually non-existent across Indian retail a decade ago. It took years for payment aggregators and banks to deploy the millions of contactless terminals operating today.
 • Commercial and Banking Alignments: Indian banks operate on tight payment margins and hesitated to pay Apple’s standard transaction fees. Reaching mutually viable terms delayed partnerships, leading to a selective rollout starting with Axis Bank credit cards.

By launching through card tokenization rather than head-to-head UPI competition, Apple chose a focused entry aimed squarely at India’s premium credit card users..

Apple Pay India Partnerships: Supported Banks, Card Networks, and Payment Gateways

“India is home to a dynamic and digitally savvy population that continues to embrace a cashless future while expecting the highest standards of security and privacy, and we’re so excited to bring Apple Pay to users in India today,”
– Jennifer Bailey

While Apple has not officially disclosed why it selected Axis Bank as its initial launch partner over rivals like HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, reports from Reuters and Moneycontrol indicate that technical readiness was the primary factor behind the timeline. However, industry observers suggest that commercial disagreements over interchange fee revenue also played a role. Moneycontrol further clarified that the Axis Bank arrangement is non-exclusive, framing the launch as the first phase of a broader commercial rollout across Indian banks.

Apple Pay Supported Banks and Cards in India

Apple Pay is currently exclusive to Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Debit cards, RuPay cards, corporate commercial lines, and credit cards issued by other domestic private or public sector banks are not supported in this initial rollout phase.

Apple Pay Integrated Aggregators & Payment Gateways in India

Merchants do not need direct bilateral agreements with Apple to accept payments. Infrastructure aggregators and payment gateways have activated Apple Pay acceptance across point-of-sale (POS) contactless terminals and digital checkouts:

 • Online & In-App Aggregators: Razorpay, Cashfree Payments, Juspay, PayU, and Paytm Payment Gateway.
 • Offline POS & Terminal Providers: Pine Labs, Mswipe, and Worldline India.
 • Launch Merchants: Integrated platforms include Blinkit, Zomato, Croma, Tata 1mg, Ixigo, Reliance Retail outlets, and official Apple retail locations.

Apple Pay Supported Countries List

Today after India Launch Apple Pay is now available in more than 90 countries and regions, and works with more than 11,000 bank and network partners worldwide.

The exact global breakdown

 • Europe: 58 countries and territories (including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy)
 • Latin America & the Caribbean: 16 countries and territories (including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia)
 • Asia-Pacific: 14 countries and territories (including Australia, Mainland China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the Philippines)
 • Middle East: 10 countries and territories (including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and recently India)
 • Africa: 4 countries (Egypt, Mauritius, Morocco, and South Africa)
 • North America: Canada, the United States, and Puerto Rico

How Apple Pay Works

Apple Pay is designed to make transactions private and secure by keeping actual card credentials off merchant databases and device storage.

How Apple Pay Works in India by Onevision Media
How Apple Pay Works in India by Onevision Media

How the Apple Pay App Processes Secure Transactions

 • Hardware-Level Security: When a transaction is initiated, the device transmits the Device Account Number alongside a transaction-specific, dynamic security cryptogram over NFC or secure web APIs. The user’s actual 16-digit card number is never shared with the merchant or transmitted to Apple servers.
 • Zero-Friction Authentication: Physical retail payments require double-clicking the side or Home button, authenticating via Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode, and resting the device against an NFC-enabled POS terminal. No additional debit PIN or SMS-based OTP is requested at the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I link my UPI account or RuPay cards to Apple Pay?

No. At launch, Apple Pay works exclusively with tokenized Visa and Mastercard credit cards. It does not support UPI rails, NPCI MPIN verification, or RuPay-network cards.

Why can I only add my Axis Bank credit card? What about HDFC, ICICI, or SBI?

Axis Bank is Apple’s exclusive rollout partner in India. Major issuers like HDFC, ICICI, and SBI Card held back over commercial terms—chiefly Apple’s per-transaction interchange fee—though additional banks are planned for future phases.

Which Indian apps and websites accept Apple Pay online?

It is supported on Safari and iOS apps via aggregators like Razorpay, Cashfree, Juspay, and PayU. Launch platforms include Zomato, Blinkit, Croma, Tata 1mg, Ixigo, Chaayos, Le15 Patisserie, Reliance brand stores, and the official Apple India Newsroom
announcement.

What are the merchant fees (MDR) for Apple Pay in India?

Apple charges zero additional processing fees to merchants. Businesses simply pay their standard contracted Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for regular Visa or Mastercard credit card transactions through their existing gateway.

Every Independence Day, brands attempt to define what it means to contribute to the country. This year, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles takes a different route. Instead of focusing on the usual symbols of patriotism, its latest film, ‘The Real Mr. India’, turns the spotlight towards the people who spend much of their lives away from it — India’s truck saarthis.

Tata Motors ‘The Real Mr. India’

At the heart of the film is Pari, a young girl who walks onto a stage to recite a poem she has written for her father. The poem is titled ‘Mr. India’, but the man she is describing is not a celebrity, soldier or public figure. He is a truck saarthi.

Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles The Real Mr. India Pari At School Function Stage
Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles The Real Mr. India Pari At School Function Stage

The film opens with Pari being invited on stage. Before she begins, she asks for a video call to be switched on, bringing her father into the moment even though he is away from home. She then begins with a simple question: “Kaun hai wo jo dikhte toh hain par dikhte nahi?”

The line becomes the central thought of the film.

Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles The Real Mr. India Showing Pari Father Watching Video

Her father is visible when he leaves home, but for days afterwards, he exists somewhere on the country’s highways. Pari describes him speaking to the clouds, cutting through dense forests and travelling through deserts, while never really stopping. He is constantly moving, yet remains largely unseen in the lives of the people who benefit from his work.

The film then expands that thought beyond one father and daughter.

Truck saarthis celebrate festivals like Diwali while being away from their families, even as their journeys help make those celebrations possible for everyone else. They travel across roads and connect markets across the country, ensuring that goods reach where they are needed.

In one of the film’s most evocative ideas, Pari describes these drivers as people who have made friends with the roads and, in doing so, build “bridges of hope”. It is a poetic way of looking at a profession that is often reduced to the simple act of transporting goods from one destination to another.

How Is this Different ?

But behind every such journey is a person spending long hours on the road, away from home and family.

That is what makes the ‘Mr. India’ comparison work. The reference is not simply to invisibility as a superpower. It is about the strange contradiction of being everywhere and still going unnoticed.

A truck on a highway is easy to spot. The person behind the wheel often isn’t.

Yet the work of truck saarthis is closely connected to everyday life. From goods reaching markets and businesses continuing to operate to products eventually finding their way into homes, their journeys form an important part of the movement of the country. Road transport remains a crucial part of India’s logistics ecosystem, making the contribution of truck drivers far larger than what is visible from the road.

The film keeps this message deliberately simple. There are no grand speeches about patriotism. Instead, there is a daughter speaking about her father.

That personal lens gives the larger message an emotional centre.

For Pari, her father is not simply someone who drives a truck. He is someone whose work demands long periods away from the people he loves. Her poem captures the sacrifice in a way that statistics or corporate messaging perhaps could not.

The film concludes with Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles thanking the lakhs of truck saarthis who work day and night to take the country forward and make it better.

And perhaps that is the film’s most effective message: Independence Day is not only about remembering the people who are celebrated publicly. It can also be an opportunity to recognise the people whose contribution has become so embedded in everyday life that we have stopped noticing it.

The Real Mr. India asks us to look again.

At the truck on the highway.

At the person behind the wheel.

And at the millions of journeys that quietly keep India moving.

Swiggy FSSAI Order is not a food safety scandal. It is a licence-related compliance issue tied to Toing, and Swiggy says the matter has now been resolved after updating the licence details and receiving the modified FSSAI licence on July 9, 2026.

Swiggy FSSAI Order and the Toing Licence Issue

Let me break it down in simple words. FSSAI raised observations on the licence particulars linked to Toing, which is Swiggy’s food ordering and delivery platform, but the company says there were no food safety concerns involved.

That matters because people often mix up a paperwork issue with a product safety issue. In this case, the core problem was administrative, not about unsafe food or bad delivery quality.

Swiggy FSSAI Order and Toing licence issue explained on mobile app screen
Swiggy app on a phone with FSSAI compliance note,

What Toing Means for Swiggy

Toing is important because it shows how Swiggy is building more than one food delivery layer inside its business. When a platform launches or runs a new vertical, the brand, licence, and compliance structure need to stay aligned, or small gaps can turn into public notices.

From a founder point of view, this is normal scaling pressure. You move fast, test new ideas, and sometimes the paperwork trails behind the product. That does not make the business broken, it just means the operating system needs better controls.

Why FSSAI Watches Food Apps So Closely

FSSAI has been strict with food delivery players for years. Back in 2018, it told major food aggregators like Swiggy and others to delist non-licensed eateries and strengthen checks on restaurant compliance.

That history matters because. Food platforms sit between restaurants and customers, so the regulator expects them to verify listings, licences, and basic food safety standards.

FSSAI advisories and licence-related updates on the site fssai.gov

Detailed Timeline

July 6, 2026: FSSAI raised observations related to the licence details for Swiggy’s Toing platform. The issue was administrative in nature, not linked to food safety concerns.

Shortly after the notice: Swiggy reviewed the observations and corrected the licence-related details. The company said it had already addressed the points that led to the order.

July 9, 2026: Swiggy received the modified FSSAI licence after making the required updates. This is the clearest sign that the compliance gap had been closed.

Swiggy FSSAI Issue Resolved

The key line here is that Swiggy says the issue has already been resolved. The company said it addressed the observations that led to the order and later received the modified FSSAI licence on July 9, 2026.

That means this is best understood as a compliance correction, not a business threat. It is the kind of thing that can happen when a fast-growing company updates internal licences, brand structures, or entity details across multiple food ops.

The Bigger Business Lesson For Founders

This is where the real value is for founders, operators, and marketers. Growth is not only about reach, revenue, or app installs. It is also about compliance hygiene, entity design, and how clean your backend sysyem is when the public starts watching.

If you are building a consumer brand, this news is a reminder that every new sub-brand, market test, or service line needs legal and operational clarity from day one. Small mistakes in naming, licence mapping, or registration details can create avoidable noise later.

It also shows why platform businesses need strong internal checks. The faster you scale, the easier it is for one licence mismatch to become a media story. That is not a reason to move slow. It is a reason to build better controls.

What This Means for Consumers

For customers, this should not trigger panic. The report points to a licence update issue, and Swiggy says there was no food safety concern involved.

Still, these events are useful because they show why compliance exists in the first place. When food delivery apps stay tight on licences and checks, the whole ecosystem becomes more trustworthy for users, restaurants, and regulators.

The Real Founder Takeaway

If I were advising a startup team, I would say this: do not treat compliance like back-office busywork. In a regulated business, compliance is part of product quality.

Swiggy’s response suggests the company moved fast to fix the issue, and that is the right play. The smart move is not just resolving the notice, but preventing the next one by keeping licence records, brand entities, and operating structures in sync.

The bigger lesson is simple. When a business grows fast, the strongest moat is not hype, it is clean execution. And in food tech, clean execution means the app, the brand, the licence, and the ops all tell the same story.

The post Berkshire Hathaway AI Shift 2026: Buffett’s Bold Move appeared first on Onevision Media.

]]>
Berkshire Hathaway’s 2026 AI shift shows Warren Buffett is not chasing hype, but backing real businesses where AI can improve profits and long‑term value. With 37.4% of Berkshire’s roughly $330 billion portfolio parked in Apple, Coca‑Cola, and Alphabet, the message is clear: Buffett’s playbook is still conservative, but he is now comfortable using AI‑linked blue‑chips to grow value. This is not a full tech pivot. It is a classic value‑investing move wrapped around three familiar brands that are quietly embedding AI into their operations.

Berkshire Hathaway’s AI Shift in 2026

Berkshire Hathaway is doing something that once sounded unlikely. In 2026, Berkshire Hathaway has 37.4% of its roughly $330 billion stock portfolio parked in just three artificial intelligence stocks.

That number matters because Warren Buffett has long been known as a cautious investor. He built his reputation by avoiding hype, especially in fast-moving tech areas that he could not clearly value. Yet Berkshire’s latest portfolio mix shows that the company is now exposed to AI in a big way.

This is not a full love story with Silicon Valley. It is more like a careful business bet.

Why Buffett Changed His Approach

Warren Buffett has never been against technology itself. He has usually been against buying what he cannot understand, or what looks like pure speculation. That is why he stayed away from the dot-com mania and has often preferred businesses with stable cash flow, strong moats, and clear economics.

So why is Berkshire Hathaway leaning into AI now? The simple answer is that AI is no longer just a story about chatbots and buzzwords. It is becoming part of the core operations of large, durable companies, and that makes it more investable for Buffett-style capital.

Berkshire Hathaway and Warren Buffett portfolio logic

Buffett’s investing logic has always been tied to business quality, not headlines. If an AI company or AI-linked stock can show real earnings power, strong balance sheets, and long-term relevance, it can fit inside the Warren Buffett portfolio.

That is the big shift here. Berkshire is not chasing random AI startups. It is owning established names where AI is either improving the business or increasing future value.

The 3 AI Stocks Behind the Portfolio

The article’s headline point is that 37.4% of Berkshire Hathaway’s stock portfolio is concentrated in three AI‑related names. While Berkshire is still a diversified conglomerate, this is a strong sign that the market’s AI wave is flowing into Buffett’s world too. Those three key holdings are Apple, Coca‑Cola, and Alphabet, which together make up a large chunk of the company’s equity exposure.

This helps explain the growing interest in the Warren Buffett AI portfolio. Investors are not just asking what Berkshire owns. They are asking why Buffett is comfortable holding so much AI-linked exposure now.

One useful way to read this is that Buffett is not betting on AI hype. He is betting on AI adoption inside businesses that already have scale, data, and customer trust.

Where did Warren Buffett invested in 2026

If you are asking where did Warren Buffett invested in 2026, the broader pattern is clear. Berkshire has remained selective, but it has also kept meaningful exposure to companies that can benefit from AI-driven productivity, infrastructure demand, and software-led growth.

That does not mean Buffett suddenly became a tech evangelist. In fact, Berkshire’s CEO Greg Abel has said the company will not do AI “for the sake of AI,” and that AI must be additive to the business. That line says a lot about the Berkshire mindset.

The message is simple:

 • Use AI where it improves real business outcomes.
 • Avoid AI where it is just marketing.
 • Keep capital focused on durable value.

What This Means for Investors

For investors, this is bigger than one portfolio stat. It shows how the investment world has changed, and how even a classic value investor like Buffett is adapting. The old split between “tech” and “value” is getting blurry.

Here is the key takeaway:

 • AI is becoming a business tool, not just a stock theme.
 • Large companies may benefit more quietly than pure AI names.
 • Berkshire’s moves suggest caution, not excitement.

The prediction is not that he will chase every new tech trend. It is that he will keep picking businesses with real earning power, even if AI is part of the story.

After tracking startup IPOs and quick-commerce business models for years, I’ve seen one pattern repeat: the market rewards growth until it starts pricing in discipline, then it gets picky very fast. Zepto’s IPO approval is a real milestone, but the listing outcome will depend on valuation, losses, and whether investors believe the growth story can survive adult supervision.

What you will learn:

 • The latest Zepto IPO date & Zepto IPO timeline, DRHP, and listing window.
 • What SEBI approval means for investors and founders.
 • Why the “is Zepto IPO going to fail” question is not silly at all.
 • The business risks behind quick commerce valuations.
 • How to think about Zepto as an IPO, not just a flashy headline.

Quick Insights for Founders

Zepto has reportedly received SEBI approval for a roughly $1 billion IPO, with sources placing the fundraise around ₹7,500 crore to ₹12,000 crore, depending on the final issue structure and market conditions.

 • The likely Zepto IPO date in India is being discussed in the June to September 2026 window, but the exact listing date is still not public, which means anyone claiming “today” has a calendar fetish, not a source.
 • The biggest listing risk is not demand, it is pricing. If the valuation is pushed too high while losses and operating intensity stay elevated, the stock could open with a discount even if the IPO is fully subscribed.

Zepto IPO Date, DRHP, & Expected Listing Window

Zepto’s IPO story moved from rumor to process when reports said the company secured SEBI approval and would now work on an updated DRHP. Reuters had already reported in late 2025 that Zepto had confidentially filed for an IPO, which set the stage for the current round of approval chatter. The market read is simple: the paperwork is advancing, but the exact Zepto IPO date is still not locked.

The most cited expectation in recent reporting is a listing window between June and September 2026, with some sources saying 60 to 90 days from the latest approval step. That makes “zepto ipo date today” a bad search term and an even worse investment thesis. For now, the only honest answer to “zepto ka ipo kab aayega” is: soon, but not officially announced.

Zepto IPO Details Investors Should Keep Eye On

The broad deal size being discussed ranges from $800 million to $1 billion, while other reports point to ₹10,000 crore to ₹12,000 crore, with a mix of fresh issue and offer-for-sale. Earlier coverage also suggested a valuation band around $5 billion to $7 billion, though that can move fast once bankers and markets start negotiating like adults in a tense WhatsApp group. The exact Zepto IPO expected price has not been officially disclosed, so any fixed-number claim is premature.

 • A few structural points matter more than the headline size:
 • A larger fresh issue can support growth and reduce burn pressure.
 • A heavier OFS gives early investors partial exits, which the market usually notices.
 • A lower valuation can improve post-listing sentiment, even if it looks less glamorous on paper.

Why this IPO is getting attention

Zepto is not just another startup trying to cash in on public-market appetite. It sits in the center of India’s quick-commerce battle, where speed, density, and customer habit are the product, not just groceries. That makes it both attractive and dangerous. Investors like the scale story, but they also know the business is capital hungry and hard to defend.

The company’s operating profile has also improved in recent reporting, with one source saying Zepto’s daily orders have climbed from roughly 1.5 to 1.7 million to more than 2.5 million. That kind of growth helps the pitch. Still, the central question is not whether people order from Zepto, it is whether the company can turn a high-frequency habit into durable economics, and not merely into a very expensive habit.

Zepto IPO analysis through unit economics

For more detailed understanding you can checkout our Zepto Business Case Study where we have deconstruct everything in detailed Zepto Case Study: The Business Model Behind 10-Minute Delivery in India

A dark-store model can scale quickly, but it also creates a fixed-cost structure that punishes weak density and sloppy inventory planning. In plain English, every extra store helps only if the store is busy enough to earn its keep.

For founders, the lesson is sharper than the stock market drama:

 • Quick commerce rewards locality and repeat use.
 • CAC alone is not the villain, but wasted repeatability is.
 • If average order value stays low while fulfillment costs stay sticky, margins get squeezed fast.

Is Zepto IPO going to fail?

Not necessarily. But it could be a rough debut if the pricing is aggressive and the market decides Zepto is being sold as a growth miracle instead of a tough, operationally complex company. That is the real risk behind the search phrase “zepto ipo delay,” because delays often happen when companies and bankers try to rework the story around valuation, not around demand.

There are two possible outcomes:

 • A clean listing, if the issue is priced conservatively and investors believe the path to scale is credible.
 • A weak first-day reaction, if the valuation assumes perfection while the business still looks like it is carrying a backpack full of subsidies.

The good news is that market appetite for startup listings in India is still alive. The bad news is that public markets do not reward narratives forever. They eventually ask for numbers, which is their annoying but useful hobby.

What can derail the deal – Several factors can pressure the Zepto IPO:

 • Valuation mismatch between private-market expectations and public-market reality.
 • Higher-than-expected losses or slower margin improvement.
 • Regulatory or timeline shifts in the updated DRHP process.
 • A broader risk-off mood in Indian markets.

A minor typo check for honesty: that is where founders often teh mistake of mistaking attention for conviction. Public investors are not buying hype, they are buying a future cash flow story that still needs to prove itself.

Evidence & Transparency

This article relies on current reporting from Reuters and multiple Indian market publications, including coverage of Zepto’s confidential filing, SEBI approval, and expected listing window. The business-model angle is supported by Onevision Media’s internal case-study reference on Zepto’s dark-store economics, which is useful for context but not a substitute for regulatory filing data.
