The NCRB Report 2022-23:
NCRB 2022-23 reports highlight the significant proportion of crime against women by their husbands, relatives & overall strangers assault in the entire nation (NCRB Report 2022)
Delhi remains to be the most unsafe city in India for women recording 3 rape cases per day in 2022 it has 14,158 cases in 2022 meaning 187 per 100,000 women faced assault or cruelty!
The latest National Crime Records Bureau reports have revealed a concerning surge of 4% in crime rates against women in 2022! This includes cases of cruelty by husbands & relatives, abductions, assaults, & rapes
NCRB report detailed a substantial peak in reported crimes against women, soaring from 3,71,503 cases in 2020 to 4,45,256 cases in 2022 – Compared to 2021’s 4,28,278 cases, the 2022 statistics marked a troubling increase with 4%
Case Statistics:
The majority of these cases fall under the:
- Cruelty by husband or relatives ( 31.4% )
- Kidnapping & abduction of women ( 19.2% )
- Assault on women with intent to outrage ( 18.7% ), Rape ( 7.1% )
NCRB report also shows that the rate of crime against women (the number of incidents per 1 lakh population) increased from 64.5 percent in 2021 to 66 percent in 2022
Based on data gathered from 36 states, Union territories, and central agencies, the report titled “Crime in India 2022” provides critical insights for lawmakers, governments, and stakeholders involved in policy formulation and analysis
Rape Cases In India By States:
When you look at individual states, Uttar Pradesh tops the list of crimes against women recording 65,743 cases in 2022, followed by Maharashtra (45,331) and Rajasthan (45,058)
Rape cases: A total of 31,516 rape cases were recorded in 2022 in India Out of this –
- Rajasthan recorded 5,399 cases
- Uttar Pradesh recorded 3,690 cases
- Madhya Pradesh stood at 3,029 cases
- Maharashtra reported 2,904 cases
- Haryana registered 1,787 cases
Also, it’s estimated that unrecorded rape cases might exceed 1 lakh which concerns the safety of women in India!
In 2022, a total of 28,522 First Information Report (FIRs) of murder were registered in 2022 – an average of 78 killings every day or more than three every hour – across India
