CBSE New Exam Pattern
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that class 11 & 12 students are going to write their academic exams in a new format from the ongoing year 2024-2025. Previously CBSE has been giving only 20% of MCQ questions per paper but, according to the new exam pattern CBSE is set to give 70% of MCQ questions along with only 30% of essay-type questions.
This new format will change the experience of learning and how students understand the concepts which was the main focus of the new exam pattern. The new exam pattern will eliminate the old approach to learning and improve conceptualization which supports creativity, and innovation and makes students understand the subjects very deeply.
In the announcement, CBSE said that the board took multiple steps to increase competency-based education in schools which comes with assignments and competencies. All the steps taken by the CBSE board are taken by considering the National Educational Policy 2020.
According to the new format, the competency-based questions in the form of MCQs, Case studies, source-based questions, and other similar kinds of questions have been increased by around 50% alongside short and long answer questions have been reduced to 30% in the exam paper.
This move comes after the board decided to eliminate the old way of memorization and shift towards learning that is focused on creativity and innovation.
CBSE Follows National Education Policy 2020 For New Formate
The CBSE board is set to start and conduct assignments & exams by following NEP-2020 from the academic year. The competency-based questions will provide the teachers with how the students learn about the application of concepts in real-life situations.
Ultimately this will also reduce stress and pressure on students to memorize long questions along with changing the learning experience. Though this new format is applicable for classes 11th and 12th, the same pattern is not applicable and not followed for classes 9th and 10th.
