When Tensions Escalated Between Gandhi And Subhash Chandra Bose
The friendship between Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas Chandra Bose was anything but smooth. Despite being the pillars of the Indian independence movement, the two leaders had a tumultuous relationship, which eventually led to a bitter end. So, what caused the split between these two heroes?
Gandhi believed that non-violent resistance was the best way to achieve freedom for India. He believed that violence would only result in more suffering and death, and it would be counterproductive in the long run. On the other hand, Bose was of the view that a more aggressive approach was required to fight British colonial rule. He thought that Gandhi’s peaceful methods would take too long to gain independence.
The major bone of contention between the two arose during World War II. Gandhi supported the British war efforts, but Bose saw it as an opportunity to launch an armed struggle against British rule in India. He left India and sought help from Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to achieve this.
Gandhi was deeply concerned and troubled by Bose’s decision to ally himself with the fascist regimes. He believed that Bose’s actions were against India’s moral principles. Additionally, he did not support Bose’s methods, which he considered violent and counterproductive.
The differences between the two leaders only grew as Bose criticized Gandhi’s leadership more and more. Bose thought that Gandhi was too lenient with the British, and he didn’t think that he was doing enough to push for India’s independence. Gandhi, on the other hand, felt that Bose’s criticisms were unfair, and he believed that he was doing his best to achieve India’s independence peacefully.
In conclusion, the conflicting approaches and ideologies between Gandhi and Bose led to their relationship falling apart. Although they both fought for the independence of India, their disagreements proved to be irreconcilable. Despite their differences, their dedication to India’s cause will always be remembered.
