Do you know that ropeways will be the next big thing if BJP comes to power again? Yes, Nitin Gadkari plans to implement and start the ropeway projects in the coming years and the first project will be
“PARVATMALA PARIYOJANA”  which reduces the travel time to Kedarnath from 8 hours to just 30 minutes. In this article, you will gain knowledge about the upcoming Ropeway projects if the BJP government comes to power once again in 2024.

Ropeway In Kedarnath – Parvatmala Pariyojana

The Indian government has been looking to increase the tourism sector in the hills along with building connectivity in hilly areas that contribute to the economy. But the biggest problem is building the correct infrastructure in these challenging areas.

In mountains and hilly areas, it is highly challenging for the construction of roads which also destroys nature. These days nature is the only source that is pulling a lot of people as part of refreshment and that is where Ropeways came into plans of development.

Nitin Gadkari planned a project called PARVATMALA which reduces the travel time to 30 mins from 8 hours to Kedarnath. This project will be initiated through a PPP (Public Private Sector) model. The Indian government is spending an amount of Rs 1.25 lakh crores for developing the ropeways across India and the scheme will be called “Parvatmala Pariyojana”.

What Is a PPP Scheme?

In the PPP (Public Private Sector) model, the Government provides 60% of the project funding while the other 40% should be handled by the company which takes over the project. As of now, India has around 80-100 ropeways and that too with limited services due to unsupported weather conditions.

Nitin Gadkari planned to construct 250 new Ropeways in the next 5 years across India which covers most of the hilly regions in India. Ropeways can be the best and most efficient way of transport in hilly regions and are the next big thing in India if the BJP government comes into power once again in the 2024 elections.

This PARVTMALA Project can be the first one that will be established as part of NITIN Gadkari’s vision. This will be the best alternate source of travel in hilly regions alongside promoting tourism. These projects will not require any kind of environmental clearance but the state government will be required to provide land to develop the projects.

Impact Of Rapeways

Currently, the government is in plans to construct new ropeways which is required immediately and can be the best solution by eliminating traffic risks in those regions. There are cable cars that can carry around 80 people at once and ease by ropeways which can save hours of travel time between destinations, and reduce pollution.

If the same can be done through 3-4 cable cars, then ropeways can be used to transport 6000-8000 people at once per hour which is a remarkable source. So, the government is in plans to introduce cable cars & various transport mechanisms in the mountain regions depending upon the suitable conditions.

This will positively impact tourism and job creation in the country. The government will conduct perfect feasibility studies, better estimates of costs, and set realistic deadlines before the start of the ropeway project which is compulsory.

Though the Gaurikund to Kedarnath and Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib ropeway projects in Uttarakhand have not been started yet after the foundation, the government is making sure to give assurance to the private companies to start them as soon as possible along with new ropeway project foundations.

BJP Impact

This will also promote make in INDIA along with developing indigenous urban & mountain mobility technology ecosystem. This will look at how the BJP government has brought new ways of transportation like VANDE BHARAT TRAINS, developed HIGHWAYS, and SATELLITE-BASED TOLL COLLECTION SYSTEM. This project is cost-effective without any compromise on safety.

Satellite Based Toll Collection: How It Works & Benefits

These new developing projects will be competing with the most prominent tourist destinations that have ropeways. This will transform the ropeway industry in India by encouraging the manufacturing of components that support the construction of the ropeways.

Longest Ropeway Network

Bijli Mahadev Ropeway in Himachal Pradesh and Dhosi Hill Ropeway in Haryana have been awarded recently. Shimla is the first urban hotspot to give a 14km ropeway project and is set to complete in 2029 which will become 2nd longest ropeway network. This project will have 220 cabins in the initial phase where 660 cabins will be upgraded later. This project will provide an employment opportunity for around 20,000 people and many other ropeway projects are underway in different states.
