A Tragic Incident comes to light Spanish couple on their way to complete their 63 Countries bike ride got raped in Jharkhand by 7 men
Dumka Rape Case:
Spanish couple who were coming from Bangladesh and were going to Nepal via Bihar were attacked under the blanket of night when they were spending the night in her tent, she said “Something has happened to us that we would not wish on anyone. Seven men have raped me”, the woman said this while sharing photos of her horrific bruises on her face that she got after the incident.
The couple started their journey 5 years ago and were on an ambitious plan for the world tour; they were going to cross 63 countries and 170,000km when the incident happened. The incident took place in Dumka which sits about 300 km away from the capital state, Ranchi
The woman who got raped after sharing her photos got asked to take down the photos by the Jharkhand Police as that was “disturbing” the case.
She said in an Instagram story, “The police told me to turn off the post so as not to disturb the investigation. I will post it later”
In a video uploaded showing her bruised face, she wrote, “My face looks like this, but it’s not what hurts me the most. I thought we were going to die. Thank God we are alive,”
What Happened To The Culprits?:
Jharkhand Police have arrested all eight men involved in the crime after a thorough inquiry, and a special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to be part of the investigation. All the accused are aged between 18 and 25 years as per reports.
The first 3 who were arrested were sent to jail after a Judicial Magistrate court on Sunday. The remaining accused will also undergo Judicial custody.
Dumka Police:
Dumka Superintendent of Police (SP) Pitambhar Singh Kherwar said that they found the couple distressed on Friday Night while patrolling. The victims were speaking Spanish, and the police struggled to communicate with them.
The police sensed the urgency of the incident and transported them to the local hospital. Effective immediately
The victim and her husband are being treated at Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital in Dumka. They both are out of danger, but the doctor is still worried that this incident might have traumatized them
The Doctor said, “Both are out of danger and are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The man has sustained minor injuries. The medical examination of the victim will be done by a medical board comprising three gynecologists, a radiologist, an orthopedic, and a dentist, headed by a superintendent of the medical college, Dr. Anupuran Purti,”
Involvement of NCW:
The National Commission for Women reached Dumka and is criticizing the police for their incapability in catching all the accused. NCW’s Chairperson Rekha Sharma has promised their support to the couple
Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi also criticized the local police for slacking in their work. The incident came up at the Jharkhand assembly, leading to heated arguments and debates.
The couple was compensated with Rs10 lakhs recently and was assured all the support. After the incident came to light, the Indian travellers, the Bikers community, and celebrities supported the couple and demanded punishment for the accused.
The victim, Fernanda, even stated it was not the mistake of the Indians, but the culprits and the Indians have been very good to her since she arrived in India with all the support and care.
