Did you know that 16th December is known as Vijay Diwas from Indian history?

December 16th is remembered as “Vijay Diwas” known for the victory of India over “East Pakistan” in 1971. The war continued for 13 days from 3rd – 16th December and ended with a formal surrender of 93,000 soldiers. As this was the first war after the independence the Indian government took this as a prestigious mission and accomplished it. Operation Trident From India:

This conflict started after the elections which led to the victory of the Awami League party led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman but the existing government used military power to suppress the formation of the new government under Mujibur Rahman who was later jailed. Due to this mass protests occurred and even this was also treated by the military which led to many people of East Pakistan moving to India.

India intervened in the matter and supported the people who came to India but on 3rd December 1971 things escalated leading to air strikes on 11 Indian air bases from the military of East Pakistan. This started “Operation Trident” a full-scale war against them targeting Karachi port with full power. After the intense 13 days long battle India stood victorious.

Bangladesh BJoy Dibos (Vijay Diwas):

The unconditional surrender of military power after the victory led to the formation of “Bangladesh” and 16th December is called “BJoy Dibos” (Vijay Diwas) in Bangladesh.16th December is celebrated as a tribute to brave soldiers who fought and laid down their lives for many people leading to the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan. A day is filled with parades in the both nations of India and Bangladesh as it was the most significant day in their respective histories. This shows the strength of the bond between India and Bangladesh as India played a crucial role in its formation.

Shortest War In Indian History:

This was the shortest war in history as it continued for 13 days with no other war stopped by 15 days after its start. The commitment and support given to the people of East Pakistan from nationalist groups who asked for support has been fulfilled which can be considered as significant over the promise in both Nations. This day is one of the proudest moments in Indian history that tells the bravery of the Indian army and its attack even after 11 air strikes on an Indian army basis.
