Allahabad high court rejected Vartika Singh’s plea, who challenged an MP/MLA court order for rejecting her defamation complaint against Union Minister Smriti Irani. The court dismissed the plea on 5th March 2024 which was previously rejected by special court on 21st October 2022. Vartika Singh Case
Vartika Singh has filed a defamation case against Smriti Zubin Irani for claiming Vartika having close relation with congress party and Gandhi family and is considered as a criminal. She challenged Smriti Zubin Irani claims in a special court where Vartika Singh and her witness’s statements were recorded.
The court then initiated an investigation for further proceedings but later the court dismissed the case as there was no justification in her complaint. Then Vartika Singh challenged the rejection of MP/MLA court order in Hight Court by a plea. Even HC also rejected her plea as there was no justification in the case.
High Court Response
The High Court justified that if anyone claims that someone have any relations with political parties then it is not called as defamation. High Court also stated all the statements from Irani were part of interaction with media and a response to question s by media.
The bench further added replying to one of the journalist’s questions, Irani said she was pawn of the congress party and have direct links with Gandhi family where Irani did not even took the name of the petitioner.
This statement is not considered as defamation of anyone. The bench finally said that she was criticising a political party and she had no intention of defaming the petitioner. High court added she is an inspiration for young and talented persons as she is a shooter and her reputation will not go down by such unjustifiable claims.
During the case hearing High court also observed that Vartika Singh also has 5 criminal cases on her.
