Read about the controversy surrounding Nisha Bangre, a member of the Scheduled caste, who was denied the opportunity to contest elections after her resignation as an SDM was not accepted.
MP’s SDM denied contesting Elections
Nisha Bangre, 32, a member of the Scheduled caste has been up in arms against the BJP since she was denied to attend an event of religious prayer for people of all faiths. The function was organised for the inauguration of her own new home. Hours before the function she resigned. But her resignation has not been accepted. This is hampering her plan to enter polls from Amla. In response to this, she started a foot march which was joined by a crowd. The march which was called “NYAY YATRA ” started from Betul and reached Bhopal near CM’s residence. The crowd in the meantime turned a little aggressive and tried to proceed further, resulting in, the arrest of Ms. Bangre.
She moved to the High Court over the resignation issue. When the court enquired, the government replied it had initiated the departmental enquiry against her. She accused the government of initiating the enquiry after she moved to the court.
Why was the resignation not accepted?
Ms Bangre has close ties with Congress leaders of MP. Also in her statement, she said that if she was to contest from BJP ticket her resignation would have been accepted within a day.
Ms Bangre hails from Balaghat district, MP. She completed her B.tech and started to work as an engineer in an MNC. Later she gave MP PCS and cleared it twice in 2016 and 2017 and joined as SDM.
What does the rule say?
According to Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rule 1956, the government is bound to accept a civil servant’s resignation within three months unless any enquiry is not going on. The issue has passed a month but is still indecisive.
Is there more to it?
Interestingly another civil servant Rajeev Sharma is also about to contest the election and the scenario for him is totally different. IAS Rajeev Sharma was serving as Commissioner of the Shahdol division, is now all set to contest the election from his native constituency Bhind. He applied for voluntary retirement which was accepted on Monday. It is anticipated that he has close ties with the BJP. Although he has not joined any political party yet.
The point here is civil servants are at the mercy of politicians or strong stable pillars of politics. Issues like these raise questions about the idealistic principle of politics, policies, and leaders that are really there that we aspire to reach. Well, the journey still looks miles away far from reality. The decision will make the picture a bit clearer.
