Maharashtra government decided to include the mother’s name in all government official documents which is set to be implemented from 1st May 2024. However, orphans will be excluded from this new rule.

This new rule is mandatory and should be followed by the authorities for its implementation successfully. The Maharashtra government has issued all the guidelines for implementation to include the mother’s name in the official government documents. Mother Name Is Mandatory:

Maharashtra government to mandate the inclusion of Mother’s name in all the official government documents. The Maharashtra government stated to mention the mother’s first name as mandatory in all government documents where the applicant’s first name must be followed by the mother’s first name and then the father’s first name and surname.

The Maharashtra government uploaded the cabinet decision on its official website on 11th March 2024, for including the mother’s first name in all official government documents. This new rule will apply to those who are born only after 1st May 2024 where applicants must register their name as per the new format so that the same name will appear in all official documents.

Documents include Birth certificates, school documents, property documents, government proofs like Aadhaar card, PAN card, etc., while this is not mandatory for orphans. In the case of married women, the same old pattern will be followed without any change.

CM Eknath Shinde Gifts To Mothers:

This was introduced on the occasion of International Women’s Day and by a committee led by CM Eknath Shinde. Women and Child Development Department stated that this new rule is to give more recognition to mothers. On the other hand, the State Public Health Department has been asked to consult the central government on whether to include the mother’s name in birth and death certificates.

Once the state government receives necessary changes and laws from the central government, the same will be applied in the state. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and 2 deputy CMs showed placards that had their mothers’ names along with their names and fathers’ names in cabinet meetings, to introduce the same in cabinet and state.

The names represented as Eknath Gangubai Sambhaji Shinde, Devendra Sarita Gangadhar Rao Fadnavbis, and Ajit Ashatai Anantrao Pawar. In a similar pattern, the people of Maharashtra should change their names which is a must for those who are born after 1st May 2024.

New Pattern Of Name:

Applicant’s name mother’s first name father’s first name surname” – is the pattern that everyone should follow and register their names for the children who are born after 1st May 2024. All the documents that are considered official ID proofs along with certificates should have names in the same format.

All the documents like educational, revenue, pay slips, service book, application for various exams, etc., must be filled with the new format and the same will appear on the documents. There is no update regarding whether the central government accepts adding a mother’s first name to the birth certificate and if it is cleared and mandates the same thing then you must add the mother’s first name.

Let us wait for the clarification from the central government on whether it accepts the mother’s name on birth and death certificates.
