Are you using mosquito repellents? If yes, then don’t neglect this article.

We use mosquito repellents to get rid of mosquitos every night regularly in our houses. But is it safe to use them regularly by inhaling toxic air? As per company guidelines, inhaling this toxic air is strictly prohibited. Let me tell you clearly about these mosquito repellents and their instructions for usage.

Mosquito Repellents User Instruction:

Have you read the label of mosquito repellents anytime? Most of us neglect that and end up knowing the wrong way to use it after reading its label. The label on mosquito repellents explains precisely how to use it to avoid health problems. The caution note on the label will read as.

  • Doors and windows should be kept open while in use.
  • Avoid inhalation while using.

The two points clearly state that the toxic air with the chemicals should not be inhaled at any cost to avoid health issues, along with opening doors and windows while the mosquito repellent is switched on.

But the majority of us use them in closed rooms by breathing toxic air in the room, which is totally opposite to instructions and strictly prohibited.

The points refer to switching on the repellents before an hour or 2 hours by leaving the doors and windows open. Opening doors and windows leads to air circulation, which will move the toxic air in the room out. Then, switch off the repellents when going to bed by closing all windows and doors so that mosquitos will be gone and have the least chance of inhaling toxic air from the repellents.

In this way, we can follow the instructions and avoid health problems as labelled by the company. The air becomes toxic due to chemicals from mosquito repellents, which are unsuitable for breathing.

Mosquito Repellent Chemicals And Their Side Effects:

We all know that this liquid is prepared from chemicals. So, let’s see what chemicals are used.

  1.  Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) – is an Anti-Oxidant.
  2. N – Diethyl-M- Toluamide(DEET) – is used for Repelling mosquitos. (Some Reports Have Shown That It May Cause Asthma and Cough-Related Health Issues)
  3. Transfluthrin – is an insecticide which may cause convulsions.

Along with these main chemicals, there are a few more in addition to giving maximum effect by mosquito repellents. Whatever the chemicals present in repellents, the company itself made clear indications by labelling about avoiding inhalation of this toxic air.

If we come to the effects caused by these chemicals we have permanent problems like  Asthma and Bronchitis along with normal health issues like headache, anxiety issues, eye irritation, angriness and cough problems. These problems may not occur with immediate effect but show impact after long and regular inhalation of toxic air which should not be inhaled.

Mosquito Repellents Disadvantages:

Anything in excess becomes harmful, especially exposed to chemicals for 7-8 hours and has more adverse effects and the same is happening with these mosquito repellents. Using mosquito repellents throughout sleep without knowing the labelled instructions about usage causes  “Respiratory Problems” and “Skin Allergies” that may show severe effects over long and regular exposure.

Nowadays mosquitos have become more immune towards mosquito repellents when compared to their initial days leaving no impact on mosquitos. So it is better to use alternatives that don’t show health problems along with leaving no traces of mosquitos upon using it.

Mosquito Repellents Alternatives:

There are a few alternatives for mosquito repellents like mosquito nets (used around the bed),  mosquito bats and natural vaporizers. As we can’t use mosquito bats throughout the night, natural vaporizers will be a good option.

We can also use neem and eucalyptus oils with a vaporizer or by adding in water. It is always difficult to follow exactly as labelled on mosquito repellents so it is better to use natural vaporizers or oils which doesn’t show any health problems upon use.

Conclusion:

We are using mosquito repellents regularly to avoid the presence of mosquitos but instead of mosquitos, the toxic air is more dangerous for humans. This chemical mosquito repellent has a negative impact on lives like feeling anger, anxiety for unnecessary things and cough-related problems.

One who is using this mosquito repellent should be very cautious and be aware of its negative effects caused upon inhaling the toxic air to avoid health problems. These labelled instructions will be in low-size words on the package of every mosquito repellent showing instructions for usage which we commonly ignore.
