The Indian Railways has announced to end its waitlist in coming years which is aiming from past with several plans. However many claim it is not possible to get the waitlist to zero as the number of passengers travelling in trains is higher than the trains that are being run daily.

In many places, travelers are facing huge discomfort as there is no place in trains even to stand and this situation has become worse after the covid. To tackle this situation the centre is in several plans that are being made as part of this prestigious announcement which are discussed here.

Vande Bharat Success:

The recent success of Vande Bharat trains all over India has shown the interest of travelers for long-distance journeys within a short period with affordable prices. Seeing the success the government plans to buy more trains along with several developments planned. An amount of 1 lakh crore is being invested as part of this mission which will be completed in the next 15 years. The completion of the 1337km east corridor and 80% completion of the west corridor will provide passengers with high-speed travel in the coming years.

7000 New Trains:

The development work of new safety technology, tracks, platforms, and trains will be completed in phase phase-wise manner by tenders to take place in the next 4-5 years. The development will ensure safe and high-speed travel between long distances in the coming years.

They will be buying a remarkable amount of 7000 -8000  train sets to run in the next 10 -15 years with at least 100 Vande Bharat trains in the next couple of years which would ease the travelling time. The total completion time of this plan is huge but this will be significantly going to reduce the travel time with more frequency in the coming years.

22.4 Lakh Crore Investment In Indian Railway:

The total investment of 22.4lakh crore which is 70% of the capital budget has been spent for track laying and other developments in the sector. As it plans for huge development in coming years it has detailed everything that is going to be developed as part of this initiative like infrastructure, maintenance, new trains, tracks, and safety technology with optimization for the high frequency of passenger trains and cargo trains.

The new track laying costs huge as the distance to be covered in KM range for increasing frequency of trains and acquiring high speeds.

The center claims it would make the waitlist to zero in the upcoming years with a huge investment towards new trains and development from the capital budget. This new investment comes up with mandatory conditions like maintenance which are considered for a good traveling experience.
