Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday holds bilateral talks with Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis in New Delhi, India
PM Modi Welcome PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis:
In a joint statement with Mitsotakis after the delegation-level talks, PM Modi said, “I am happy to welcome PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his delegation to India…The visit of the Greek PM to India after 16 years is a historic occasion. It’s a matter of happiness that we are heading towards doubling the bilateral trade by 2030″
Indian Prime Minister also welcomed Greece’s active participation & positive role in the Indo-Pacific matters
“It is a matter of happiness that Greece has decided to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative. We agree that all disputes and tensions should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,” PM Modi said
PM Modi said, to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India & Greece next year, the Indian government has decided to prepare an action plan that will “enable us to showcase the common heritage of our two countries in science & technology, innovation & other areas on the global/international stage”
India And Greece In Arms & Ammunitions:
Prime Minister Modi said India & Greece can enhance cooperation in common challenges including defence, cybersecurity, counter-terrorism & maritime security
“The increasing cooperation in defence and security reflects our deep mutual trust. In this sector, with the formation of Working Group, we can increase cooperation in common challenges like Defence, Cybersecurity, Counter-terrorism & Maritime Security,” he said
“New opportunities in co-production and co-development are coming up in the defence sector in India. This can be beneficial for both countries. We have agreed on connecting the defence sectors of both countries. In the fight against terrorism, India and Greece have the same concerns and priorities. In this sector, we held a detailed discussion in further strengthening our cooperation in this sector,” PM Modi said
India And Greece’s Significant Progress:
Hailing the partnership between India and Greece, Mitsotakis said, “Greece and India are close to one another in many respects. Our shared values serve as the bridge that brings us closer…the world’s oldest democracy, the world’s largest democracy, share the mutual political will to cooperate, to establish partnerships and explore and create new synergies.”
The Greek leader said that both nations will work towards finalising agreements on key issues like migration and mobility
He added, “It will constitute a very important step towards strengthening our cooperation in issues such as illegal migration, fighting human trafficking, but also offering young Indians an opportunity to come and work in Greece and benefit from the growth of our economy.”
PM Modi is a true friend:
Talking about his relationship with PM Modi, the Greek PM said, “In Prime Minister Modi, I have found a visionary, a principal leader and a true friend. The importance that we attach to our relations with India is evident not only in the increase of our bilateral contacts over the past year but also in the partnerships we have developed”
Mitsotakis is on a two-day state visit to India and will attend the ninth edition of the Raisina Dialogue as the chief guest and keynote speaker.
Notably, this is the first Head of State/government-level visit from Greece to India in 15 years. The last such visit took place in 2008
