Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi during his 2-day visit on February 13th and 14th. The first Hindu temple “BAPS Mandir” of Abu Dhabi will be inaugurated in the presence of the top leaders of Abu Dhabi on 14th February 2024. BAPS First Hindu Temple In Abu Dhabi:
The first Hindu temple was built across 27 acres which was gifted by a UAE leader. This temple was built with the involvement of both governments which resembles the close relationship between both the countries. The land was gifted by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed AI Nahyan in 2015 to construct the temple.
However, the foundation to construct the BAPS’s first Hindu Mandir was done on 20th April 2019. The temple was constructed with pink Rajasthan sandstone and white Italian marble. The 7 towers or Shikharas at the temple resemble the 7 emirates of the UAE.
The temple’s height is 32.92 meters, its length is 79.86 meters and its width is 54.86 meters was designed by RSP Architects Planners & Engineers Private Limited and Capital Engineering Consultants.
Temple Construction Detail:
- The design was inspired by the Ancient Hindu Scriptures of Shilpa Shastras.
- The 7 Shikharas showcase the tales of Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavatam, and Shiva Purana.
- The temple complex includes a visitor center, prayer hall, exhibitions, learning areas, food court, water features, and books& gift shops.
- Temple is estimated that the cost of construction is 400 million UAE Dirhams.
- It is the first Hindu temple to be constructed in the Middle East and is set to be inaugurated on 14th February 2024.
- The temple has 100 sensors in the foundation along with another 350 sensors placed throughout the temple providing data about earthquakes.
BAPS Hindu Mandir Significace:
It has a symbolic waterfall feature within the complex that shows Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. There is a unique architecture to the temple that resembles the ancient culture.
The sculptures and carvings were done in India itself which are shipped to Abu Dhabi. Then they were assembled and installed through modern technology. The temple is aimed at teaching Hinduism and culture with peace and harmony. The temple authorities plan to organize cultural activities as part of festival exhibitions.
The temple will be attracting millions of devotes in faith from different backgrounds and religions too.
BAPS Hindu Mandir Inaguration:
Spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj will be alongside Modi while inaugurating the temple. Top leaders of the UAE will also grace the event of inauguration. The ceremony includes music, rituals, prayers, and chants along with performances and cultural speeches.
The temple will be open to the public from 18th February 2024 with UAE residents have been advised to visit from 1st March 2024. This is due to several events organized for days after the inauguration that are set to gain huge visitors from foreign countries. There is pre-registration for tickets with a dedicated website too which can be accessed by devotees.

The unique feature of the temple is the “Dome of Harmony” which resembles the balance of 5 natural elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space. This temple can accommodate 10,000 devotees at a time and is set to become the biggest temple in east counties.
