India is set to experience extreme heat waves in the upcoming months and IMD has issued an alert regarding the heat waves. IMD alerted Indian citizens to be ready for extreme heat waves starting from April to June and will have a dry summer without rains in the named states.

This time IMD observed increased temperatures in the upcoming months and that has already proved in some parts of the nation by recording the highest temperature in the regions.

IMD Alert Over Extreme Heatwaves

Indian Metrological Department (IMD) issued an alert to the Indian citizens to be ready against the extreme heat waves in the upcoming months. IMD stated western and central peninsular regions will be the most affected while some regions already recorded the highest temperatures crossing the maximum temperatures recorded previously.

Usually, heat waves long last about 4 – 8 days but this time IMD is expected to record the extreme heat waves for about 10 – 20 days in April, May, and June.

  • Rajasthan
  • Gujarat
  • Saurashtra-kutch
  • Maharashtra
  • North Karnataka
  • Andhra Pradesh
  • Odisha

These states will face extreme day temperatures and heat waves this summer. While J&K, Himachal Pradesh, northern Odisha, west Bengal, and eastern regions of the nation will experience normal to below normal temperatures.

IMD stated that heatwaves will last longer than usual in the upcoming 3 months which will be around 2-8 days per month. Himalayan and north-eastern regions will have some relief from the extreme heatwaves which might record normal to below normal temperatures.

Heat Waves Will Impact Elections

These heat waves will impact the state that is going to conduct the elections in the upcoming months. Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh states have Lok Sabha polls and assembly elections.

The extreme heat waves will impact the voters in these states and may result in a decrease in polling numbers. Which means the states might not achieve 100% polling. So IMD stayed to take extreme precautions to not get affected by the extreme heat waves in the upcoming months. Stay hydrated and take precautions for not being affected by these heat waves.

Election Commission of India Guidelines

The Election Commission of India issued guidelines to ensure the safety of citizens at the pooling booths. It stated all the ballets will be placed only on the ground floor to facilitate persons with disabilities. Drinking water, shades to avoid sunlight and heatwaves, and medical kits will be made available to the public as per ECI guidelines.

Toilets will be also available at the polling booths. ECI stated to bring wet towels so that they can be hydrated against extreme heat waves and avoid bringing children along with them to the polling booths.

Citizens can follow their steps to not get affected by extreme heat waves. ECI also stated that voters can utilize the morning hours for casting their vote at polling booths and avoid afternoon hours.
