6 Wickets For 0 Runs In 11 Balls:

Indians have probably moved on from the World Cup defeat, which took place on 19th November 2023 against Australia & here we start 2024 with the unwanted record of 6 Wickets For 0 Runs In 11 Balls, rounding up a bizarre day of cricket in Cape Town!

All it took were 11 deliveries for India to lose the plot completely. While Lungi Ngidi got rid of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah in a single over with a set Virat Kohli stranded at the other end, in the next over, Kagiso Rabada got rid of Kohli and Mohammed Sirja was run out before Rabada got the better of Prasidh Krishna. This meant India could not take their lead past the 100-run mark. India was bowled out in 34.4 overs, implying the first two innings of the Test lasted only 349 balls, which happens to be the second-fewest ever in Test cricket.

In a staggering collapse for Team India during the first innings of the second Test in Cape Town, the visitors lost six wickets within the astonishingly brief span of just 11 balls without adding a single run to their total. The downfall began when Lungi Ngidi dismissed KL Rahul for 9 in the 34th over, with India at 153/4. Ngidi continued his lethal spell by taking two more wickets in the remaining five balls of the over, dismissing Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah without scoring any runs.

Kagiso Rabada added to India’s misery by claiming two more wickets in the following over. He swiftly removed the formidable Virat Kohli for 46 on the very first ball and then orchestrated the unfortunate run-out dismissal of Mohammed Siraj. Rabada, then, sealed India’s innings by dismissing Prasidh Krishna, inducing an outside edge that Aiden Markram safely caught at slip.

Earlier, South Africa were bowled out for just 55 runs, the lowest total by an opponent against India. Mohammed Siraj was the wrecker-in-chief, scalping 6 wickets for 15 runs in his 9 overs, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar scalped two wickets apiece. Their innings had lasted 23.2 overs after they elected to bat first.

Before the ongoing test, 17 was the highest number of wickets that had fallen on a single day at this test venue, now witnessing the third innings of a test match unfold on Day 1 itself. India’s innings also saw six batters get out without scoring, the joint-most by a team in a single innings in Test cricket history!

Conclusion:

The recent cricket match in Cape Town turned into a real head-spinner for Team India. Imagine, they lost six wickets in just 11 balls without scoring a single run! It all started when KL Rahul got out, and then, in no time, we saw Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja leaving the field without adding any runs. Kagiso Rabada joined the party, taking two more wickets, including the big one – Virat Kohli.

The misery continued as Mohammed Siraj was run out, and finally, Prasidh Krishna got caught. It was like a cricketing disaster movie.

To make things more interesting (or embarrassing), India’s opponent, South Africa, had earlier been bowled out for just 55 runs. Now, that’s a low score! The match has created quite a buzz with all these records and surprises. Let’s see what the next innings has in store for us!
