The 26/11 Mumbai attack caused tragedy in many families that occurred in Mumbai for 3 days from 26th -29th November 2008 by a Pakistani terrorist group. The group named ‘Lashkar-E-Taiba’ subdivided into 4 teams and conducted attacks on the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Nariman house along with Chatrapati Sivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai causing around 166 deaths record and injuring more than 300 people leaving a horrific incident in Indian history. Karachi To Mumbai:
10 Terrorists travelled by boat for a long 38 hours to be undetected by the Indian Navy from Karachi, Pakistan. Upon entering Indian waters, they hijacked a boat of five fishermen with gun magazines, assault rifles, RDX’s, hand grenades and AK-47 rifles killing four of them after hijacking and the captain was killed at 7 kilometres before the shore.
Diversion Plan of Terrorists:
Four members kept sailing and attempted several attacks after being deported at Badhwar Park, Colaba causing 15 deaths including 10 people in a cafe 5 people in a taxi by RDX bomb and several people injured while the other six members dropped at Macchimar Nagar parade targeting attack main areas.
26/11 Mumbai Attack Location:
All of them reached the same place(10 terrorists in total) and attacked the Taj Mahal Hotel by four terrorists. Two attacked the Oberoi Trident with the other two entering Nariman’s house and the remaining two went on to attack Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
26/11 Mumbai Attack Timeline
Since all the attacks occurred simultaneously we have provided the timelines to better understand
ATTACK IN CSMT :
- 26th November 9.20 pm:
They initiated an attack at CSMT with rifles and hand grenades leading to the death of 58 people and injuring around 104 people
- 26th November 10.30 pm:
Later headed to a nearby CAMA hospital causing the deaths of the hospital chief and officers. After this, they hijacked a jeep and got sighted by police. Here one terrorist is shot dead and the other one gets arrested.
The two terrorists who attacked CSMT were Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Kasab arrested by a brave police officer named “TUKARAM OMBLE”. He took more than 23 bullets in his chest and never left him to escape and got martyred.

ATTACK IN TAJ MAHAL HOTEL :
26th November 9.38 pm:
In the Taj Mahal hotel, two terrorists entered from the lobby and the other two entered through the “La-Pat” door and killed all people who were sighted by AK-47 rifles and grenades. After hours the central dome was bombed by RDX and caught fire with huge smoke out.
- 27th November 4.00 am:
The marine commandos evacuated the hostages by dividing them into two groups
- 27th November 6.30 am:
A total of 200 commandos reached to attack and rescue Delhi after the marine commandos arrived.
- 29th November 8.00 am:
Commandos declared the Taj as free where sanitisation and evacuation are being done.
- The hostages who were injured were sent to St. George Hospital and JJ hospitals

ATTACK ON OBEROI TRIDENT :
26th November 10.10 pm:
The Oberoi Trident is a luxurious and spacious hotel than Taj which was the main target for terrorists as foreign tourists stay there in huge numbers. The two terrorists opened fire to kill the staff members and the residents by entering. All the main parts of the hotel are also checked to siege and kill whoever is present. Then they set up a bomb to explode at ground level.
- 27th November 6.00 am:
The NSG takeover the operation the very next day and fought throughout the day where several army personnel were reported as injured at the end of the day
- 27th November 7.25 pm:
After they rescued 31 people batch-wise in the day the fire broke out
- 28th November 3.00 pm:
The Oberoi is set free with the two terrorists killed
ATTACK ON NARIMAN HOUSE :
26th November 9.45 pm:
The Nariman house is a Jewish community centre which was first to be attacked by terrorists in India and was the target. Not only Jews the tourist from across countries also visits regularly. After the attack, the news spread around the Jewish communities in many countries. In India, the community was run by “Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg” with his wife “Rivka Holtzberg”. Here the terrorists blew up a nearby petrol pump and the base of the staircase by bombs. The guests and hotel owners were kept as hostages for around 40 hours while the owner’s son who was 2 years old managed to escape by their cook after 12 hours of hostage situation.
- 27th November 5.30 pm:
20 NSG commandos were sent into the house and rescued 9hostages at ground level
- 28th November 7.30 am:
The commandos then entered from the terrace through the chopper as the staircase was bombed up.
- 28th November 3.30 pm:
After hours the final assault between commandos and NSG took place leading to a victory over terrorist
- 28th November 9.00 pm:
One commander named Joginder Singh was dead along with the owners and the hostages while two commandos were injured in the battle.

Conclusion Of Mumbai Attacks:
The terrorist consumed several illegal drugs such as cocaine, steroids and LSG so that they could be awake during their mission continuously. It is said that Hafiz Saeed leader of jama ‘at-ud-da’ wah was the one who planned this mission which also revealed they planned an attack in Delhi which failed due to several reasons earlier. By this year it is marked by 15 years of tragic attacks and the Indians will never forget the sacrifice of the brave soldiers who lost their lives saving the lives of people while serving the Nation.
