The central government has proposed a Ban on certain breeds of dogs that are considered dangerous, which disheartened many dog lovers. However, the dogs that are already under owner control will be stopped from breeding and will be sterilized. The government has issued all the guidelines regarding the ban of dog breeds which we have mentioned in detail.
List Of Banned Dog Breeds In India
Union Government Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has issued a ban on certain dog breeds. This ban will apply to dogs that are listed and certified as dangerous pets by a committee. This ban is applicable for importing, breeding, and sale of the dogs under dangerous list.

This ban comes after an increase in deaths of people due to dog bites.
Petitioned Against Dangerous Dog Breeds:
A large group of citizens has petitioned the government for a ban on those dangerous breeds followed by an official procedure by the government. Delhi High Court asked the government to decide how to solve the issue and the government introduced an expert committee.
Expert Committee:
The expert committee was led by the commissioner of animal husbandry along with other members of stakeholders. To the issue, the expert committee came up with a list of dangerous breeds that are dangerous as pets.
After this, the court order issued guidelines to ensure the ban of dangerous dogs. While the guidelines are not regulated for street dogs. The dangerous dogs that are kept as pets should undergo sterilization. The guidelines also include a ban on the breeding of those dangerous dogs, importing and selling them is also banned.
Guidelines For Dog Owners:
The 25 dangerous breeds were treated as threats to human life as there were many cases of reported death due to attacks from this dog. This ban will be effective from 12th March 2024 the owner who already has those named pets should have a proper license or get them along with certification of sterilization from a registered veterinary doctor.
This certification includes vaccination in a timed manner and keeping a record of it for future reference. The pet owners need not worry as they can continue their pets to grow with them and not abandon them due to this new ban. Pet owners have flexibility on how to treat them as pets with guidelines. The committee has mentioned these breeds as well as crossbreeds will be prohibited from breeding, importing, and selling in local areas.
Conclusion:
The central government also made sure to implement enforcement of Dog Breeding and Marketing Rules 2017 and as well as pet shop rules 2018 under the prevention of cruelty to animals in local areas. The government is not against animals as the ban is imposed but taking necessary actions to avoid loss of lives due to dog bites in most conditions. The pet lovers can choose other breeds of dogs as their pets without any hesitation as they are not that much harmful.
